"Love these cards, Elena - to me they are like codes I get to unlock with each contemplation."
When my niece and I travel together, she knows I’m taking the ceremony deck with me. It’s become the foundation of our morning rituals during the trips. Our most recent adventure began in San Diego.
That first morning, we were up early in a little beachside hotel that was tucked away on a side street along the coast. We instinctively went outside to absorb the morning rays of sunshine and align our circadian rhythms. We talk about things like aligning the circadian rhythm in a playful manner, but we are dead serious about it. The deck came outside with us. We fanned it out on a stoop outside. Engaged in our own intentions for the day ahead, “Harmony” and “Trust” cards acting as our first-day muse, we discovered we were perched at an intersection where surfers park their cars and get ready to catch waves.
One surfer, intrigued by our setup, asked us what the deck was. He wanted in. Before we knew it, he and other surfers were pulling from the deck; our first visitor was instructing the other surfers to be conscious and purposeful with it. He understood the assignment. We ended up having meaningful conversations, on a whim, us holding our morning coffee about to start another series of memories together, them half in their wetsuits, about to start a totally different experience to their day.
My niece and I facilitating a group of people taking a moment to creatively look within, who otherwise would have been strangers passing by, was the most beautiful (and harmonious) surprise I could have asked for to start that trip.
The ceremony deck made it all happen."
